If your calls are crackling, distorted or you're hearing a light 'hum' sound, here are some steps you can take to resolve this.
Step 1. Firstly ensure there are no loose Ethernet or phone cables as these can sometimes cause speech to be broken up or distorted. Make sure cables are all firmly plugged into the right ports.
Unplug and reconnect each end of the cables if necessary, ensuring the connectors click and lock into place when inserted.
Step 2. Try switching to a different cable to see if this improved the quality. Ensure your cables are not excessively long. For example, category 5 (CAT5 which usually looks like a twisted pair cable cables) should be no longer than 100 meters.
Step 3. Ensure your Internet connection and associated routers/switches are powered up and are working. An easy way to confirm would be to perform speed/connectivity tests from random PCs on your internal network.
